Success for the newly established Wado Ryu Karate club in Mooroolbark at the Shukokai Open Tournament.
On Sunday the 24th of February 2008 Shukokai held its open tournament at the Dandenong Basketball stadium. The Shukokai Open tournament, is open to all AKF (Australian Karate Federation) clubs. Wado Ryu of Japan is one of the oldest members, being a founding member.
Congratulations to the Mooroolbark dojo, which has been open less than a year, for their very successful first entry into a major interclub tournament. They brought home the silverware in every division they entered.
The five competitors who entered the tournament did remarkably well, guided by their Sensei Brett Cross who is no stranger to tournament success himself.
In the Kata division the following results were obtained;
Scott Field 2nd place Kyu grade senior male
Nicole Richards 2nd place senior Kyu grade female
Samantha Cooper 3rd place senior Kyu grade female
Jackson Field 3rd place 11-12 year old male Kyu grade
Then when the gloves were pulled on for the Kumite events the Mooroolbark club stepped it up a notch taking the gold medal in every event entered, results being
